To παράδειγμα του χημικού κινδύνου.

Το Ελληνικό Ινστιτούτο Υγιεινής και Ασφάλειας της Εργασίας διοργάνωσε στα πλαίσια της Ελληνικής Προεδρίας, το 8ο Διεθνές Συνέδριο της Επιτροπής Έρευνας ISSA. Ο βασικός στόχος του συνεδρίου ήταν να παρουσιάσει εργαλεία για την εφαρμογή της ευρωπαϊκής νομοθεσίας για την Υγιεινή και την Ασφάλεια της Εργασίας, εστιάζοντας στην εφαρμοσμένη έρευνα και ειδικότερα στο παράδειγμα του χημικού κινδύνου,ο οποίος λόγω της μεγάλης του σημασίας είχε επιλεγεί το 2003 ως θέμα της Ευρωπαϊκής Εβδομάδας για την Υγιεινή και την Ασφάλεια στη Εργασία.
Η Υγεία και η Ασφάλεια της Εργασίας είναι μια βασική συνιστώσα της Δημόσιας Υγείας. Ανασφαλείς και ανθυγιεινές συνθήκες εργασίας δημιουργούν αμέτρητο ανθρώπινο πόνο προκαλώντας θανάτους και ασθένειες, ενώ ταυτόχρονα οδηγούν και σε σημαντικές απώλειες ,3-5% του ακαθάριστου εθνικού προϊόντος σύμφωνα με εκτιμήσεις διεθνών οργανισμών.
Είμαι πεπεισμένος ότι η έκδοση των πρακτικών του Συνεδρίου θα συμβάλλει στην αντιμετώπιση των προβλημάτων που εμποδίζουν την εφαρμογή της νομοθεσίας συνεισφέροντας στη βελτίωση του εργασιακού περιβάλλοντος και στην πρόληψη επαγγελματικών ασθενειών και ατυχημάτων.
